Philadelphia Orchestra Returns to SPAC

The Philadelphia Orchestra returned to SPAC for their 50th anniversary residency last night.  Highlights of the three week residency include the world premiere of Michael Torke’s Unconquered (Fri, Aug 5); Ratatouille in Concert (Sat, Aug 6); The Firebird, created by the puppeteers behind Broadway’s War Horse (Thurs, Aug 11 at 3PM and Thurs, Aug 12 at 8PM); and Renée Fleming’s SPAC debut (Thurs, Aug 18).  Also this season, the Orchestra’s beloved Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Musical America’s 2016 Artist of the Year and newly appointed Music Director of The Metropolitan Opera, returns for the final week of concerts (Aug 17-20).

Special events include Walk of Fame Star Dedications to Marcia White, SPAC’s President and Executive Director (Sat, Aug 6 at 7PM) and Ed Lewi, former member of SPAC’s Board of Directors (Wed, Aug 10 at 7PM). As well as pre-performance talks one hour prior to the show with featured artists and pre-show events with entertainment, including Family Night (Aug 5, 12 & 19), Children’s Workshop on the Lawn (Aug 5, 12 &19), Instrument Petting Zoo on Fridays (Aug 5, 12 &19), Date Night (Aug 10 & 17), Paint & Sip (Aug 13), Girls’ Night Out (Aug 17) and the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with fireworks on August 23rd.
